Botox can alleviate depression!

Studies show that having an aesthetic intervention (surgical or non-surgical) can improve your self-esteem. Even more, it may enhance your first impression you impart on others, whether it be on a job interview, or at the grocery store. Specifically, double-blinded clinical trials have shown that Botox or Dysport rivals mainstream antidepressant medication in its ability to improve one’s mood. Wow!! That is something I can get behind. So how exactly might this work? One hypothesis is the facial feedback loop: if we are physically unable to frown, then we may be less likely to feel sadness.

But don’t worry: if you are not ready to go under the knife (or under the needle), buying new makeup or hair products may also give you a boost as well. So go ahead and treat yourself!
